A Sad Lament from the Scottish "Captain"
Ladies & Gentlemen,
Thank you for giving up your valuable time to participate in the Thompson Cup Match & Stableford
Competition at the Riverside Golf Club last Saturday, 6th November. I hope you all enjoyed
yourselves despite the result!
It was a tight match but unfortunately Team England won by 3 ½ to 1 ½, which is really a small
margin when one considers that an additional game in our favour would have resulted in a halved
match overall! Anway, congratulations to Jeremy & his team on their win!
David Turner was the runaway winner of the Stableford Competition with 41 points. The margin was
so great that David’s initial points tally of 39 points was unchallenged; however after a recount, David
in fact had 41 stableford points which is a tremendous score on a difficult course!
Thanks to Susan Whistler for helping to organize the Stableford Competition & to our Chieftain,
Elaine Cameron for organizing the bloody mary cocktails before we tee’d off & for making sure that
the jug of whisky was never empty & the friendly banter flowed in the Clubhouse after the golf
All the best,
Ray Grant
.... President's brief but succinct reply:
A resounding victory for England, and mental thrashing for the Scottish Team. I suspect they will
come better prepared next time.
Cheers,
Rex Whistler
